I approach Powershot, my faithful point and shoot, with a heavy expression. (Soap opera organ music plays in the background.)
Me: Powershot, I have decided to move on.
Me: I . . . I haven't been happy for some time. I've been corresponding with another.
Me: I was at first . . . but I need more now.
Me: (exasperated) I need DEPTH!! I need RAW passion!! I need more sensitivity! Your sensor is so . . .so. . . small!!
Me: I'm sorry. I don't want to hurt you. You will always be my first. And I DO want to stay friends.
Me: Don't say it! No more name calling. I do love you. But Rebel Xti has stolen my heart.
Me: I know. But what I used to think of as help, I now find . . . controlling.
Me: You're a point and shoot! It's just who you are! Don't blame yourself. Please try to understand. Plus, I will always need you during those risky times where Rebel might get hurt, or stolen. Like the pool! You can still come to the pool with us!
Me: Be that as it may, Rebel arrives Tuesday. With a 50 mm f/1.8 lens. We have until then. Let' s make the most of it.
Me: Well, we'll still do some stuff together (not). Like the pool. And videos. C'mon, let's go take pictures of Bee sleeping . . . even though you're awful in low light.

Yes, I need help.

LOL! OMG, that was great! You'll LOVE the xti! It's what I have as well and I have the 1.8 lens. You'll have to get used to moving your body though, I find I'm a zoom girl myself, but it does come in handy. I'm ALWAYS switching my 2 lens depending on what I waht to do. You just can't always get as close as you want :) And sometimes, it's just too darn close :) Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Oh, I'm giddy!! Another class memeber talked about having to 'move' more with the 50mm. Will take some getting used to. thanks!
you are so funny! yes, you will love your new camera. can't wait to see your pictures with it.

Oh, Allie, this is just the funniest thing EVER!! Congrats on the camera -- you'll love the 1.8 indoors especially, but it does take a little getting used to if you accustomed to a zoom. It's great, though, and I love my little Rebel that could. I think you'll find it's a great learning camera. It's been good to me ;-)
LOL, this cracked me up! Especially since I am beginning to look at SLRs myself, and will have to make that painful break with my Kodak (shh, don't tell it yet, I'm still stringing it along right now!). I'd love to hear how you settled on the XTi, and I'll look forward to seeing what you do with it!
Don't worry, I won't tell:)
I settled on the Rebel because of the size, price, and I couldn't find THAT much difference between it and the 30d (5pps vs. 3pps, 30d has a more solid body, and probably a little nicer sensor). Not enough to justify the higher price to me. Especially since I'm so green.
So, I'm starting with the Rebel, learning on it (for a long time!), then someday might move up to a 5d (super expensive, awesome camera).
Oh, and I was advised not to buy the 'kit', and go with the 'body only' camera, and buy the lens separately since the kit lens isn't that great. I went with a 50mm f/1.8 by recommendation. We'll see!
My decision in a nutshell . . . hope that helps!
